3 billion liters of beer a year are consumed by Vietnamese people, according to the latest numbers released at a conference held in Hanoi in May to review the ministry of health's new campaign to discourage unhealthy drinking. Consumption of beer in Vietnam has increased continuously, especially among young people and women. Apart from the beer, Vietnamese consumed more than 68 million liters of alcohol annually. According to market survey company Eurowatch, Vietnamese consumed 32 liters per capita in 2012, the highest rate in Southeast Asia, third in Asia (after China and Japan) and 28th in the world. The country’s beer market recorded an annual growth rate of 15 percent in 2012, in spite of the fact that its per capita income that year was just USD1,540, among the lowest in the region, according to Eurowatch. The numbers are really high. As i understood from many in the beer business, many companies try to enter the vietnamese market because of the great market here. Vietnam is supposed to be one of the fastest growing markets for beer. But since the local market is difficult they cant enter so easily. By the way, here is the latest update of all breweries, maybe something need to be corrected also..?

I asked a guy who opened a new goldmalt recently, that one in 65 Quan Su in Hanoi. He said its easy ( !??) and that permission should be granted by the local peoples comittee.. It seems that it takes a few month to open up a brewery for 100% vietnamese owned breweries. I dont know about quality control but assume that if you are a foreigner (together with a vietnamese co-owner), there will be much more controls and they will require much more papers. So have that in your calculations and budget when calculating your costs.
